There are 7000 links to U.S. womens organizations, searchable by subject and name. Also policy analysis, networking, info on the status of women in government, the military, election and voting.
Stateline http://www.stateline.org A Site for journalists and policy makers to stay abreast of important state developments. Archive of old stories for research, background information and statistical data. Research on Healthcare, Welfare Reform, Tax and Budget policy, Education, Utility Deregulation and much more. There is also general state information and a calendar of state events. Good site for candidates to check up on issues. Sponsored by the Pew Center on the States.
Local Government Council http://www.thinklocal.org Non-profit, non-partisan site to educate local officials on public policy from a free-market, pro-business and traditional values perspective. Good site for pro-business candidates to check on issues. They have a newsletter, policy articles and public policy links.
Government Printing Office (GPO access on the web) http://www.lib.purdue.edu:8100/gpo/ The GPO is the government agency that produces the Federal Register among other publications. Purdue University has organized access to the GPO on the Web, helping you get through the maze of information available. You select the database you would like to search and specify keywords. You can search congressional bills, the Congressional Record, the General Accounting Office blue book documents, public laws and much more.
PoliticsOnLine http://politicsonline.com Excellent on-line newsletter with the latest political/web information. The Site is very busy with all kinds of tidbits on web happenings, a "ToolBox" page for campaign suggestions, a page called "Neat Ideas" and a page on "hot sites". You can subscribe to their NetPulse newsletter which offers a wide range of data on how the internet is used in politics.
Virginia Business Lobbying & Politics http://www.virginiapolitics.com/ Information about Virginias legislative and political process, with a business slant. Articles from Virginia Business magazine, Virginia Chamber of Commerce, and others. The Site offers issues, Legislator profiles, a list of lobbyists and lobbying groups and links to help track the status of bills.
PACfinder.com http://pacfinder.com/default-old.htm A comprehensive list of Political Action Committees that can be easily accessed. You can check out detailed information on each PAC including total disbursements and contributions to democrats or republicans. Each PAC has detailed background and political data including full address, phone, fax and PAC treasurer.
California Initiative Fair Vote 2K http://www.westmiller.com/init.htm Former congressional candidate Bill Westmiller has started an Initiative promoting a Constitutional Amendment for Automated Districting. The aim is to take the politics out of the redistricting in California. They hope the initiative will appear on the November 2000 ballot. The Initiative would take districting out of the legislature and courts after the 2000 census, substituting an automated, computerized districting program. The site is well organized, with background information, the law and a campaign schedule.
FYI - The Democratic Presidential Convention will be held in Los Angeles and the Republican Presidential Convention will be held in Philadelphia.
Steve Forbes 2000 http://www.forbes2000.com/ Steve Forbes recently announced his candidacy for Presidency on the Internet. This site comes up quickly. They are attempting to "build the largest grassroots organization in the history of representative democracy" through e-Precincts setup by supporters visiting the site. The site also includes his platform, on-line contributing, speeches, press releases and his upcoming schedule.
Keyes 2000 http://www.keyes2000.com This is the official Alan Keyes for President Web Site. Comes up quickly. Very few graphically interesting but filled with information for the supporter - electability, activities, articles and publications, speeches, interviews. There is a contributions-on-line and a number of active state and local support organizations on line.
McCain Exploratory Committee http://www.mccainforpresident.org The John McCain for President Site loads quickly with an immediate request for email addresses and an toll-free number to contact the campaign. Good feature. The site is easy to maneuver but does not offer much information or reasons to get excited about the campaign. You cannot contribute on line.
Bill Bradley for President http://www.billbradley.com The Bradley site loads quickly and does have an archive of press releases with information about Bill Bradley and his issue positions. The home page features a Chicago fundraising dinner raising $1.2 million. While there is a toll free # to reach the campaign, there is no way to email the campaign directly and you cannot contribute on line. The volunteer form is lengthy and lacks a space for the first time supporter.
Dick Fulton for Mayor http://www.Fulton99.com Unique feature on the site - "Mayor for a Day" where people offer ideas on how to improve the City and their neighborhoods. They will post the best and most creative responses on the web site.
