CNN/Politics http://cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/analysis This site has an excellent collection of articles analyzing state and national issues and political campaigns. You can voice your opinion on the day’s news and have it published on their Voter’s Voice page. Also check out the political cartoons.

Election News Worldwide http://www.klipsan.com/elecnews.htm Daily International News of Elections, Election calendars, Election Returns and other related information. Updated daily. You can read about the Community Party gains in Japan, or election developments in Malawi, Algeria and Indonesia.

Townhall http://www.townhall.com Conservative News & information, the father of conservative sites. The site is described as a "mall" of ideas where people can exchange information and discuss the latest news. In addition to the traditional chat room, they also have a "Rush" room. There are over 50 member organizations from the American Conservative Union to the Weekly Standard. The web links section is quite extensive.

Freedom Works - Office of the House Majority Leader  http://www.freedom.gov  Majority Leader Dick Army’s web page is filled with news and information. There are many features including the Year 2000, and Vote for the Tax you Find Most Annoying. You can sign up to receive regular email updates.

The Arkansas Citizens First Congress http://www.citizensfirst.org A site for citizen activism. Check out what they are doing. They have put together a coalition of over 70 organizations from the AFL-CIO and the Sierra Club, to the Woman’s Action for New Directions to strengthen the voice of private citizens in the political process. They track bills, lobby their issues and alert their members to action.

The Progressive Challenge http://www.netprogress.org   An effort to invigorate and to articulate a progressive "fairness" agenda at the state, local and national level. Formed by members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and a coalition of progressive non-governmental organizations, they conduct public and congressional briefings, debates, etc. Grassroots activists have scheduled events in Chicago, Maine, San Francisco, Birmingham, Detroit and Philadelphia. There are links to several hundred endorsing organizations from Advocates for Youth to Women Strike for Peace.

Party.gif (1202 bytes)

Madison County GOP http://www.madisoncountygop.org/ An excellent County Web Site. A lot of interactive material including a GOP live chat room and bulletin board, a straw poll and a contest. Of course the County leadership, the Republican Clubs, candidates and elected officials are also included. Finally, a daily temperature reading to remind the northern folk of how warm and sunny it is in Huntsville, AL.

California Democratic Assembly http://democrats.assembly.ca.gov A very high tech and busy Web Site. Lots of activity. Graphically appealing. There are scrolling "hot topics" and a scrolling daily calendar. There are feature stories, some with audio, that appear to be updated regularly. There is caucus news, members and achievements. Of particular interest is a media resource center with links.

The 30 Second Candidate http://www.pbs.org/30secondcandidate Excellent primer for anyone interested in the history of political TV advertising and how a political ad is made. The historical timeline extends from 1950 to 1998. There is commentary by prominent media consultants. You can also download a fictictional campaign and interact with the process. In addition, a one-hour documentary takes you step by step from concept to completion. The site is part of the PBS Democracy Project to educate the citizenry.

Searchable Candidate Web Site Database www.politicalresources.com New Feature for 1999 Political Resources' Online Directory searchable by party and level of government.  Lookup candidate sites and add your candidates.

Recall Petition On-Line http://www.recallcarty.com Follow the success of this recall petition. A group of Toledo are trying to recall Mayor Carty Finkbeiner from office and the internet is their vehicle. Thegoal - collect 35,000+ signature to place the recall vote on the ballot. Their site has had over 7,000 visitors and by day 7, over 800 signatures confirmed.

Al Gore 2000 http://algore2000.com Very well thought out presidential site. Al Gore, in casual attire, spells out his vision for the 21st Century on his home page. Gore has an understanding of what the Web can do. There are detailed issue papers on a variety of subjects, a Spanish web version, an interactive questionnaire, organizing on-line activists, interactive Town Hall meetings, etc. With all that, there is no direct email link to the campaign.

Dan Quayle for President http://www.quayle.org Dan Quayle announced his campaign for president on 4/14/99. His home page is busy with a lot of activity and a detailed statement of purpose. He is positioning himself as the "Values Candidates, " with position papers devoted to "stronger families," "a more secure America," "lower taxes" and "less government." There is also a day schedule, clips and quotes, join the campaign info and a campaign email address.

Gary Bauer for President 2000 http://www.bauer2k.com Bauer, a conservative Republican, has a carefully crafted Site, keeping his home page simple and to the point. Three short sentences summarize his agenda to "Advance America’s Values". You can click on to "issues," the "campaign trail" and "add your support." He has a detailed list of his activities for each month. There is a direct email link to the campaign.

Hillary NO.com http://www.hillaryno.com   A clever Site put out by the Friends of Rudy Giuliani for Senate in New York. The home page is a mock-up front page of a tabloid with a large, unattractive photo of Hillary with the caption, "U.S. Senate: For Proven Leaders, Not a Proving Ground." They have a petition drive for Giuliani. The site also asks supporters to add the "Hillary NO" banner to their site.

John White for Mayor of Philadelphia http://www.johnwhite99.org  The campaign title is the "official"…"Not fake, phony or bogus" John White Site. Apparently the staff of his opposition created a phony web site. The incident has been resolved. The Site has some nice touches. He released his economic development plan on line; he also claims to be the coffee klatsch candidate and he plans to post photos of all of his volunteers.
