P2000:Race for the White House - http://gwu.edu/~action/P2000.html  An excellent site covering the presidential primary from A to Z. For the student of history, there is background, starting with the convention, the pre-campaign, the fall campaign, the pre-primary, the debates and on through the inauguration. There are profiles on the prospective candidates and information on past presidential elections. Of particular interest is the calendar of presidential primaries, which was updated July 9, 1999. There is background on the process in each state. http://gwu.edu/~action/chrnothp.html

Campaign Web.net - http://campaignweb.net   A daily update of national political news. Large print, easy to read with links to the full story. Sources include the major news outlets: Reuters, AllPolitics, Washington Post, MSNBC, San Francisco Chronicle, Salt Lake City Tribune, Philadelphia Daily News, etc.

The Internet Voting Company - http://www.votesite.com   This is an initiative campaign to win the right to vote over the internet, starting with voters in California. The aim is get the issue on the year 2000 ballot. Their goal is to secure 500,000 signatures. Each petition signer will receive a "digital certificate." Marc Strassman, author of California Internet Voting Initiative, is shepherding the effort.

MoveOn.org - http://www.moveon.org    This is a grassroots Internet advocacy group who, having raised $250,000 online in five days, broke the online fundraising record. Last year, the organization had collected 500,000 signatures against the Clinton impeachment. Now, they are using their 25,000 email database to challenge incumbents who supported Clinton’s impeachment. "We Will Remember" campaign targeted 5 candidates in its first effort and they plan to expand their campaign as the election season heats up.

House Managers PAC - http://www.housemanagers2000.org   This a grassroots Internet group on the other side of the aisle. According to the House Managers PAC web site, the Clinton White House pledged vengeance on the 13 Impeachment House Managers and they have responded. The House Managers have formed a PAC to raise funds and to mobilize voters at the grassroots level. Their Site has audio/video clips to support their case, a newsletter and opportunities to join their effort.

Campaign-Party Sites.gif (1221 bytes)

Senator Bob Smith For President - http://smithforpresident.org  The big news from the Smith campaign for President is the Senator’s leaving the Republican party. The complete July 13th announcement, made on the Senate floor, can be found on his web site. "I came to the Republican Party on principle and I’m leaving on principle." His departure increases the speculation where his independent presidential campaign will land and what impact his departure will have on his Senate seat, up in 2002. Of interest is a scrolling section of supporters around the country, offering their support.

Senator John McCain for President - http://www.mccain2000.com  An attractive looking site with all the "bells & whistles" - the John McCain story, a calendar, the campaign trail, issues and an opportunity to buy paraphernalia, sign a petition and contribute on line. Of interest is his second web site, highlighting one of his key issues - campaign finance reform. Check out the "Stop the Pork" page, highlighting the June 1999 Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Bill with $1.2billion in "pork stew." You can find the web site at http://www.itsyourcountry.com You can sign a petition or make a contribution. The political moral may be - two web sites are better than one to get your message out.

Rudy Guiliani for NY Senate - http://www.rudyyes.com    A new consideration for campaigns on line - parody sites that look like the original but are obviously a hoax. Http://www.yesrudy.com is the bogus Web Site. But the viewer has to read carefully, beyond the double talk and between the lines, to discover the ruse. Rudy is described as "the next Vladimir Ilich Lenin", "get to know Rudy…the next Leonid Brezhnev", "Proven Leadership...he is the next Cho En-Lai."
