Open Secrets.org http://www.opensecrets.org Open Secrets, a product of the Center for Responsive politics, a non-partisan, non-profit research group tracking money in politics and its effects on elections and public policy. The site highlights its money in politics data. Influence Inc. is a study of lobbying in Washington, who the players are, how much they give and to whom. The latest presidential numbers are available, broken down by industry, total raised and spent and other variables. There are links back to the Center and some of their other studies, i.e., soft money, standing committees in Congress, etc.

National Voter Outreach http://www.directdemocracy.com This site offers an excellent summary of the Initiative and Referendum process. It outlines the various state requirements to put an issue on the ballot, what states have Initiative and Referendum opportunities, and finally the Direct Democracy Journal, an up-to-date information guide on the Initiatives filed throughout the country.

GenderGap http://www.gendergap.com A one-woman project on Women in Government, Politics and the Military. Of interest is the 1998 tallies of women in each state legislature, the women who have served in the Cabinet and advised the president, the women in Congress and the women on the Supreme Court. Finally, the military statistics and history of Women in the Military is worth a look. There is also a nice summary of the 1999 November state elections in KY, LA, MS, NJ and VA. <http://www.gendergap.com/elections/election1999/e99-states.htm

Lucianne.com http://www.lucianne.com She’s back. Lucianne Goldberg has a web site that reports the hot political stories. Of interest are the "posts", her comments and those of others who read the news columns. The dialogue is casual and provocative, a combination of gossip column and commentary. The site supports her radio show, on the air from midnight until 2am.

Americans for Tax Reform http://www.atr.org With the tax cut legislation in the news, we thought a site opposed to all tax increase should be included. The House, Senate, Conference and Presidential Budget bills, along with extensive analysis and a poll on whether the President should sign the current legislation. In 1986, the ATR sponsored the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, committing signers to oppose any effort to increase federal taxes. 209 Reps and 41 Senators have signed on. The Government Spending counter shows how quickly the Government spends tax dollars. (One million in less than ten seconds).

State PIRGS (Public Interest Research Groups) http://www.pirg.org A leading environmental and consumer watchdog organization. It is a grassroots and citizen-based activist organization. Advocacy is organized at the state level with 23 U.S. states and Canadian affiliates listed on the web site. Each state has its own set of local priorities and goals. Some of the national reports include lead poisoning effects on children, the 1999 SUV survey report, the Smog report and details on the 122 largest producers of carbon-based fuels. Among other features is a Congressional scorecard, based on 13 issues and an e-mail alert system.

Bills will be briefly explained and e-mail links included for voter feedback. Bob Hansan, President of Capitol Advantage plans to "expand the service to all Internet users."

Warren Beatty for President http://www.netwizards.net/~beaumont   The groundswell is beginning. A California politico, Benjamin Brandzel, has developed an unofficial Beatty for President Web Page.
