The Thirteen Keys to the Presidencyhttp://www.lionhrtpub.com/orms/orms-10-96/white-house.html A fascinating theory to predict the outcome of presidential elections. Allan J. Lichtman, professor of history at The American University in Washington, DC, has successfully predicted the last three presidential elections. Historically, his theory has proven to be an accurate indicator. He predicted the Clinton victory in June, 1996. Thirteen questions must be answered with a "yes" or a "no" answer. "Yes" answers favor the incumbent party. If five or fewer answers are "no", the incumbent party retains the presidency, if six or more are "no", the challengers wins. Some of the questions include: "The incumbent party holds more seats in the U.S. House after the midterm elections than after the preceding midterm election…There is no serious contest for the incumbent-party nomination…The economy is not in recession during the campaign." With the 13 keys, perhaps we don’t need a presidential campaign!!

SpeakOut.com http://speakout.com   A non-partisan forum to speak out and be heard. The mission is to make activism easy by connecting people with political and business leaders to create a dialogue. Click on to issues of interest. They spotlight a particular issue and ask your opinion. They also have a political news summary and their own interactive research. One interesting piece of original reach out – SpeakOut.com recruited likely Republican South Carolina voters to participate in an interactive dial group and recorded their moment-to-moment reactions.

Voters’s Block – Politics & Pop Culture http://www.votersblock.org  Another Site to encourage political involvement. They call themselves an experiment in conversation. "Voter’s Block—1. Refusing to vote because of one’s frustration with the political system, 2. A group of voters united to recast the political drama." They try to get behind the spin for discussion in a "frank and thoroughly modern manner."

The Democracy Network- http://dnet.org   This is a project of the League of Women Voters Education Fund and the Center for Governmental Studies. It is an interactive website dedicated to improve the quality and quantity of voter information. Candidates enter their own statements and positions on issues without any outside editing. Voters can address questions to the candidates. In 1999, they covered 19 state and local elections. This year, all federal, statewide and some local elections will be covered. The Site also offers provocative articles, a delegate count and an Events Calendar.

Alliance for Better Campaignshttp://www.bettercampaigns.org A site promoting political campaigns in which the most useful information reaches the greatest number of citizens in the most engaging ways. One of many insightful articles includes a study which finds that ABC, NBC, and CBS have been airing 34 seconds of candidates talking each night since the February 1st New Hampshire primary. They have organizational partners in 20 states and have a series of specific national projects.

Electoral Calendar http://www.angelfire.com/ma/maxcrc/elections.html A world calendar of elections, produced by Maximiliano Herrera of Costa Rica. In addition to listing all of the upcoming world elections, there are also links to other interesting calendars including: The Amnesty International’s Calendar, A Freedom of the World Calendar and a world ranking of independent countries according to their standard of living.

News Page 2000 http://www.newspage2000.com Straight forward news page Site. In addition to the headlines, there are links to AP, Reuters, Washington Post, New York Times, USA Today, Washington Times, International Herald, Tribune, and many other major newspapers; editorial columnists, news services and the foreign press.

Stop Dr. Laura – a coalition against hatehttp://stopdrlaura.com This site has drawn millions of viewers since its recent inception. This is a testament to the impact of the Internet as an organizing tool and the speed in which an emotional issue can create an audience. The Site was founded by a coalition of groups who want to stop Paramount from airing the Dr. Laura TV show. The Site urges participation through targeted emailing, adding a logo to your web site and through financial contributions.

WhiteHouse 2000http://www.niu.edu/newsplace/whitehouse.html An excellent all-purpose site with links covering the full gamut of presidential politics. The debates, the full list of contenders, news stories, fun stuff, and interesting articles.

The Green Papers: Elections 2000 Presidential Primary Season http://www.thegreenpapers.com We wish we had discovered this Site months ago. It has everything on the primary, in a neat, compact format. Facts, figures, tidbits and commentary. State histories and a detailed state by state analysis. Much of the information can be found in piece-meal form on other sites but they have brought it all together in one location.

Democratic Race http://www.democraticrace.com A guide to the presidential primaries and the general election. There is a quick view of the delegate count with the total for Gore and Bradley. In addition, there are some good links to media coverage and general democratic web sites.

Republican Race http://www.republican.com Using the same format as the Democratic site, this site offers a quick view of the delegate count with totals for Bush and McCain.

Maryland Student Legislature http://www.msl.org Students from universities and colleges across Maryland join together to write, research, and debate issues of local, state and national importance. It was established in 1988 with delegations organized at the various colleges and universities. Their annual session 2000 will take place in the State House in Annapolis, April 14th –16th , 2000. It could be an interesting model for other states.
